Founding Team assemble!

Formation of the founding team with a broad range of expertise. Dr. Sebastian Schmelzle, PD Dr. Michael Heethoff and Prof. Dr. Bernhard Ströbel will be accompanied by Sarah von Hagen (M. Sc.) and Marc-Simon Stutz (B.Sc.).

Prototypes for Pilot Users

Delivery of DISC3D prototypes to several pilot users (Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, Zoologische Museum Kiel, Univ. Hamburg, Univ. Greifswald, Museum König Bonn, Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt).

Road to Perfection

Great response to the ZooKeys publication and inquiries about possibilities to buy a DISC3D. First applications of DISC3D for research projects, further improvements of hardware and software, several study projects and theses at TU Darmstadt and Hochschule Darmstadt for further development.

Scientific Publication

Publication of the basic principles in the ZooKeys magazine

2017 to 2018

First Results

Presentation of initial results at the Oldenburger 3D-Tage, relocation of development to the TU Darmstadt, extensive testing and software optimization consecutivly.

Early Development

Beginnig development of the DISC3D and the software at the Hochschule Darmstadt, partly with participation of student project groups. First practical tests with insect specimens from the TU Darmstadt.
